This Privacy Policy explains how TheDogs.app ("TheDogs.app", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares personal information when you use https://thedogs.app (the "Service").
1. Who we are (data controller)

We are established in the European Union, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") applies to our processing wherever our users are. We also respect the privacy rights of U.S. residents under applicable state laws (see Section 10).
2. Summary
- You can use the breed quiz and the pet insurance cost estimator without giving us your name or email.
- We collect your email address only if you type it into one of our forms.
- We share your details with insurance partners only if you tick a separate box that asks for it. That box is never pre-ticked, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
- We use no advertising or analytics cookies and do not track you across other websites.
- Our servers are located in the United States.

AI connector requests: request details sent by an AI assistant (breed, lifestyle answers, age, ZIP code, savings amount) are processed in memory to calculate the answer and are not stored. Supabase request logs are kept for 7 days and contain no request content. Cloudflare does not keep request logs for the connector; details are under AI assistant connectors.
We do not collect your name, phone number, postal address or payment details.
We do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Breed matches and insurance estimates are informational only.
4. Cookies and browser storage
We use only storage that is strictly necessary for the Service you request, so we do not ask for cookie consent:

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. Clearing them resets your quiz and may lock the toolkit again.
5. AI processing ("Dr. Waggs")
The AI commentary works like this: your quiz answers and your top breed matches are sent from our server to Google's Gemini API to generate the text. We do not send your email address or any other identifier with the request. Google processes this data as our service provider and, under its paid API terms, does not use it to train its models. The AI text is generated automatically, may contain mistakes and is not veterinary advice.
This section covers Dr. Waggs on our website. When you use TheDogs.app inside ChatGPT or Claude, our connector does not use Gemini or any other AI model to calculate results; calculations use our own rules and cost model. The AI assistant you use processes your conversation under its own terms.
5A. AI assistant connectors (ChatGPT, Claude)
TheDogs.app offers a read-only connector that AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can use to answer your dog-related questions with our breed database and cost model. You do not need an account with us to use it.
What we receive. Our connector has no direct access to your conversations, your assistant's memory, your files or your account with the AI provider. When the assistant uses the connector, it sends us a defined set of request details that it puts together from your conversation. Depending on the request, these are: a breed name, your lifestyle answers (home type, activity level, dog experience, whether young children live with you, time the dog would spend alone and similar preferences), a dog's age, a U.S. ZIP code and an emergency-savings amount. Our server checks these fields against a fixed format before using them for the requested calculation.
How we use it. We use these details only to calculate and return the answer you asked for. We do not save them in our database, we do not keep a stored profile of you, and we do not use connector data for advertising.
What is kept, and for how long.
- Usage counts: anonymous, aggregate counts per day, for example how often a tool was used for a breed, by which AI assistant, and a coarse result band (such as "fit 0–39%, biggest mismatch: activity"). They contain no free text, none of the answers you gave, no identifiers and no IP addresses, and cannot be linked to you. We keep them as aggregate statistics.
- Technical logs at our service providers: our hosting provider (Supabase) keeps request logs with technical metadata, such as the time, request URL, response status and the connecting IP address, for 7 days. Requests reach us only through our own routing service, so these logs contain our routing service's address, not your device's IP address. The logs do not contain the details you asked about.
- Routing service: our routing service (Cloudflare Workers) does not keep request logs. Cloudflare keeps only aggregate service metrics, such as request counts, errors and processing time, for up to 3 months. As our network provider, Cloudflare processes the connecting IP address, which is the AI provider's server address, to deliver and protect the service.
- Error records: if a request fails, we record technical error details, not the content of your request.
Sharing. We return the result of your request to the AI provider you are using. We do not sell connector data or share it with other third parties, except with the service providers listed in section 6 that host and route the service for us.
Your AI provider. The AI assistant you use (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) processes your conversation under its own privacy policy. We do not control that processing.

6. Who we share data with
Service providers (processors). These providers process data for us under data processing agreements:

Insurance partners (only with your separate consent). If you tick the box "Share my request with TheDogs.app's insurance partners so they can contact me with quotes", we send your email address, your dog's breed and age, your ZIP code and your estimate summary to the partners listed at thedogs.app/partners. These are pet insurance companies, licensed insurance agencies or comparison services. Each partner uses your data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy. We may receive a fee from a partner when we pass on your request or when you click through to them. We never share your data with partners without this separate consent, and you can withdraw it at any time (Section 9). Withdrawal stops future sharing. For data already shared, contact the partner directly or ask us, and we will pass your request on.
Legal reasons. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We do not sell personal data in any other way.
7. International transfers
Our main servers are in the United States. When we transfer personal data from the EU/EEA to the U.S. or other countries, we rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified, and otherwise on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards at hello@thedogs.app. This also applies to AI connector requests, which are routed through Cloudflare's global network and processed in the United States.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and row-level access controls in our database. Only authorised administrators can read email addresses. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Your choices and rights
Withdraw consent / unsubscribe. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to hello@thedogs.app. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before.
Rights under the GDPR (available to everyone, regardless of where you live): access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdrawal of consent. We respond within one month.
Complaints. You can complain to your local data protection authority or to our lead authority: Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH), 1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9–11, Hungary · www.naih.hu · ugyfelszolgalat@naih.hu. You may also go to court.
10. U.S. state privacy rights (e.g. California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut and others)
Categories collected (last 12 months): identifiers (email address, IP address); commercial-interest information (the pet insurance estimate you requested, your dog's breed and age); approximate geolocation (ZIP code); internet activity limited to technical server logs. Sources, purposes and retention are described in Sections 3–6.
"Sale" or "sharing". Passing your insurance request to partners in exchange for a fee may count as a "sale" under some U.S. state laws. We do this only with your opt-in consent. To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, use the link "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" in our footer, or email hello@thedogs.app with that subject line. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as an opt-out. We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not knowingly sell or share the data of consumers under 16.
Your rights: to know/access, delete, correct, opt out of sale/sharing, and to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. You may use an authorised agent. We will verify requests by confirming control of the email address concerned. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision. We respond within 45 days.
Sensitive personal information: we do not collect it.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
We will post any changes on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use data you gave us on the basis of consent, we will ask for your consent again.
