Your Dog Isn't "Fluffy." He's Morbidly Obese and It's Your Fault.

Trigger Warning: I am about to fat-shame your dog. (And by extension, you).

Social media loves a "chonky" dog. We call them "absolute units" or "thicc." The Medical Reality: That dog is in pain. Obesity is the #1 preventable health issue in dogs. It causes arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and shaves up to 2 years off their life. When you overfeed your dog, you are killing them with kindness.

The Rib Test (Do It Now)

Put your hands on your dog's ribcage.

  • Can you feel the ribs easily? Good.
  • Do you have to press hard to find them? Overweight.
  • Can't find them at all? Obese.

The "Food = Love" Fallacy

Humans are weird. We show love through food.

  • You feel guilty leaving for work ➔ Treat.
  • The dog looks cute ➔ Treat.
  • You are eating pizza ➔ Crust for the dog.

To a dog, food is a resource, not a hug. You can bond with your dog by playing, walking, or training. You don't need to stuff them like a Thanksgiving turkey to prove you love them.

⚠️ Dr. Waggs' Prescription

  1. Measure the Food: Use a measuring cup, not a "random scoop."
  2. Cut the Treats: Treats should be 10% of their diet. Most of you are at 40%.
  3. Vegetables: If they beg, give them a green bean. If they spit it out, they aren't hungry; they are just bored.

Stop loving your dog to death.

🥦 Diet is hard. Picking the right breed is easier. Does your lifestyle match a high-energy dog or a potato?
